Contemporary China Research Center at Fudan University (hereafter, "China Center") was founded in December 2009 as a university-level research center based in the Fudan lAS. China Center is a specialized research institution with "contemporary China" as its research focus. The Center brings together the research expertise from various top-ranked disciplines in humanities and social sciences at Fudan University. Characterized by "internationalization" and "interdisciplinarity", and guided by the academic philosophy of "rediscovering China" and "promoting in-depth research on contemporary China", the Center conducts long-term research on the economic, political and social development of contemporary China. In recent years, the Center has continued to focus on party building and social development. In recent years, the Center has dedicated its efforts to study party building and urban grassroots governance in China, and has published a series of high-quality research. Internationalization is a prominent feature of Contemporary China Research Center at Fudan University. The Center has established partnerships with renowned foreign academic institutions engaged in China studies, including the UCLA Asia Institute, Brussels Institute for Contemporary China Studies in Belgium, and the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre. It has become a platform for Fudan University to go global in China studies and a leading institution for Fudan University in the field of contemporary China studies at home and abroad. China Center serves as a research base of the "13th Five-Year Plan" Shanghai Civil Affairs which is jointly built by Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau and Fudan University. Its primary research areas encompass national governance, grassroots governance, urban governance, and related fields. The Center has conducted a series of research projects to serve the country and Chinese society.
The Director of the Contemporary China Research Center is Fudan IAS-SIRPA jointly appointed Professor Jianjun Liu. The deputy director is Dr. Zhongyuan Wang, Associate Professor of Fudan IAS.
