Research Center for Chinese Modernization was established in November 2022. It is a research center based in the Fudan Institute of Advanced Study in Social Sciences (Fudan IAS). Leveraging the characteristics and advantages of the interdisciplinary integration of social sciences at Fudan IAS, the Center brings together scholars from various disciplines, including political science, public administration, law, sociology, economics, philosophy, Marxist theory, and others. The Center aims at exploring and investigating the fundamental theoretical and practical issues of Chinese modernization and seeking to explain the meaning and value of Chinese modernization to the world, so as to broaden the overall academic vision of Chinese path to modernization. The Center has two academic platforms: the "Chinese Modernization Forum" and the "Chinese Modernization Workshop." These platforms are dedicated to in-depth exploration of theories, ideas, cultures and institutions underpinning Chinese-style modernization. With a focus on research agenda setting, fostering theoretical innovation, and constructing influential discourses, the Center seeks to become a preeminent intellectual hub for the study of "Chinese modernization." The Center has established fruitful collaborations with renowned academic institutions both within China and abroad, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Jilin University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Huazhong Normal University, the Asia Center of Leiden University in the Netherlands, the Department of Political Science of the University of Zurich in Switzerland, and the University of Tübingen in Germany. The Center has emerged as a research platform for Fudan IAS to enhance its domestic and global influence in the field of modernization research.

    The current director is Professor Donghang He, Distinguished Professor of Fudan IAS.  The deputy director is Professor Guodong Sun, Professor of Fudan IAS.
