Donghang He (Ph. D. in History) is a distinguished professor of Fudan University and a research fellow at the Fudan Institute for Advanced Study in Social Sciences (IAS-Fudan). Previously, he has taught in the Huazhong Normal University and the Xiamen University. His research interests are mainly state transition, local governance and rural reform, and he was one of the earliest specialists who have focused on what the reform of collective forest right system has brought to rural governance and society. Based on solid and long-term fieldwork, a substantial number of his research reports have received attention by leaders of the Chinese government, which have influenced the making of rural public policies. He has led and participated in at least 40 national and local research projects, and has published more than 100 papers in the top journals including the Social Sciences in China. He has published several books include The State Building of China: History, Process and Today. His most influential paper is “The China’s Experience of Public Policy”, which was published by the Social Sciences in China in 2012 and later was ranked fifth in the most-cited papers in the humanities and social sciences in 2011-2015, and was ranked ninth in the area of Marxism studies (including political science) in the period of 2005-2015.
